Empty to Energised Grant
As part of the Supporting Thriving High Streets Programme, Ards and North Down Borough Council will be piloting a Capital Grants Scheme. The scheme is intended for vacant/derelict property owners in Bangor City and Newtownards Town.
The grant scheme will provide financial assistance to vacant/derelict property owners who want to renovate vacant/derelict properties and introduce new commercial uses. The pilot grant scheme will positively contribute to revitalising the city/town by bringing vacant commercial buildings back into use. This is the first time a scheme of this nature has been available in Ards and North Down. The Empty to Energised Grant Scheme is fully funded by the Council.
To help us understand the demand for the scheme, as well as the wider challenges and barriers preventing the uptake of vacant space, Ards and North Down Borough Council are encouraging property owners to complete a questionnaire. The questionnaire will open on Monday 23 June 2025 and will close on Friday 1 August 2025.
Under the scheme council will not consider properties which are to be, or could be sold within 12 months from receipt of a grant award, and could result in full repayment of grant to council.
Your feedback is vital, and the information received from this exercise will help to shape the grant process.
Please note: The information provided in the questionnaire will be used to support the development of the grant scheme only. Details provided will not be used to support any future applications that may be made to the scheme.
