Experience Programme 2026
Overview
Thank you for your interest in the Ards and North Down Experience Development Programme 2026.
Within the programme we wish to develop experiences that research has identified are lacking within Ards and North Down.
In particular we wish to increase experiential activity that align with “Slow Tourism”.
Slow Tourism refers to travel that emphasises a deeper more meaningful experience. It encourages travellers to engage fully with local communities, landscapes and traditions, promoting a more sustainable approach to travel. Currently Tourism Ireland is actively promoting this trend through initiatives such as “Ireland Unrushed” which aims to attract visitors who want to slow down and value immersive experiences while supporting local economies.
The areas identified within Ards and North Down requiring increased visitor experiences are:
- Food and Drink
- Culture (Music/History/Heritage)
- Water themed
To apply to be part of this programme you must be able to work within one of these three areas.
The programme is open to all businesses in Ards and North Down who are interested in developing a visitor experience. Preference will be given to businesses within the borough, but where there is a need, consideration will be given to businesses based outside the borough who can deliver an experience in Ards and North Down.
Only experiences falling into one of the above categories will be eligible. Full information can be found via the link below.
Following submission, applications will be reviewed to establish if they will move to the next stage.
Please note that this application will be scored. A maximum score of 10 is available and a minimum score of 7 is required to move to the next stage.
If successful, our consultant will meet to discuss the experience viability and following this determination, the idea may be developed or you may be directed to the Strand 2 training workshops. If your idea is taken forward a plan for mentorship will be determined.
