Freshen Up Grant
Overview

The Freshen Up Grant supports businesses to carry out cost‑effective shopfront improvements of power washing and/or painting, to enhance visual appeal and create welcoming streetscapes in time for the summer season, with the aim to attract more visitors and boost local economic activity.
The Freshen Up Grant will provide financial assistance to commercial properties with an active business in the urban centres of Bangor, Comber, Donaghadee, Holywood and Newtownards. Grants will provide 90% funding up to a maximum amount of £1,500 per property. A minimum 10% financial contribution is required from eligible applicants.
The Freshen Up Grant is funded by the Department for Communities and Ards and North Down Borough Council.
The scheme will open for applications at 9.00am on Friday 01st May 2026 and will close at 12noon on Friday 29th May 2026 (or sooner should all funding be awarded)
Please note that the Freshen Up Grant operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so early application submission is highly encouraged.
All successful applicants will be required to complete all works no later than Friday 28th August 2026.
